Glay: Ano Natsu Kara Ichiban Tooi Basho
04.04.06
Artist: GlayTitle: Ano Natsu Kara Ichiban Tooi Basho (The Place Farthest From that Summer) Words: Takuro Music: Takuro the dream was right here all along rumpling up that pre-suntan Poker face Remember how we decided who would drive to the beach by drawing straws *1 and yet despite that, you dozed off on the ocean drive. the sins of those dazzling days, even now I sometimes set my heart on a surf board and let it have ride on that sea. *2 We've come as far from that summer as is possible, the miracle of us finding each other as our guide that place where we understood one another, is still in my heart ingrained for all time We were searching for the sapphire wind. Lost Summer Days I heard there's a typhoon approaching, revving the old fashioned engine, we rushed off. I thought we could crush the destiny that stood in our way I put on my best face even for the friends by my side, and left for the open sea. Why? Was I the one who turned his back on the passion so intense it could make me forget my frustration? In that summer in which that melody was its most glorious, I let go of your hand, and melted into the crowds I just wanted the youth savagely, innocently I lost 'something' in exchange for my freedom we were always being tested. I wasn't innocent enough for romance, nor was I ready to love I just wavered between reality and fantasy. We've come quite a ways since that summer, the miracle of our finding one each other as our guide. that place where we understood one another, is still in my heart ingrained for all time We were searching for the sapphire wind. Lost Summer Days my friend, making your way through the real world with no guarantees. someday, in the place closest to that summer... Translated By: Brian Stewart & Takako Sakuma Translator's Notes: We got *'s * 1 - I chose drawing straws as the translation because it's the most accessible form of "lottery" people use in the US aside from "One Potato Two Potato...". It's possible Takuro is merely using the word kujibiki "lottery" as a cool way of saying Rock Paper Scissors. I think Takuro is implying that the singer's friend was the one chosen to drive and still somehow eneded up sleeping instead. * 2 - I like this image. When I hear this I think of the singer in the song living his ordinary life and sometimes revisiting that summer beach, and letting his heart roam his memories like it's riding the waves of a great blue ocean.
