Every Little Thing: Fragile

01.02.05
Artist: Every Little Thing
Title: Fragile
Words: Mochida Kaori
Music: Ito Hitoshi

I'm always hurt you by such little silly things.
Stilted conversations are pointless.
My words are too clumsy, just getting in the way
Even though I love you,
I can't make you know these feelings, they hurt.

I'm not yet used to saying "my dear"
but for you, right now, I can say it.
If you'll be next to me laughing,
I won't need anything else.
Everything began when we met,
We have days we hurt each other but,
The thought of wanting to be with you
leads to some unknown future.

I go out of my way to look calm
and force a smile though i have no right to.
Another lonely night, loneliness attacks
I love you so I get upset, these feelings are sad.
that time I said "I'll protect you",
those feelings of hesitation, they weren't lies.
But still, I want you to hold me so as not to break
these feelings I've tried to believe in.

I'm truly happy that I could grow to love you this much.
Even if someday you should lose heart,
I won't let go of that hand I hold.

Everything began when we met,
We have days we hurt each other but,
I'm connected to a future,
where I'm still not sure I want to be with you.

Translator's Notes: The word Tsunagaru is the theme for today's translators notes. Class, take out your pens and take careful notice of its uses. In this case, just to say that "my thoughts of wanting to be with you are linked to an unknown future" doesn't really transmit the idea that Mochida is getting at. It's more like "Wanting to be with you" is one of the many steps that leads to our future together." Of course its just the first or second step so the future remains unseen. Maybe "I force a smile though I have no right to" is too strong a phrase. The alternative would be something like "though its neither the time nor place to smile". Like she doesn't feel like smiling, or the situation doesn't call for her to smile but she does anyway for YOUR sake. Lyrics by Mochida herself seem to have a little more personal feminine edge than the old Igarashi days.
