Every Little Thing: Grip!

Artist: Every Little Thing
Title: Grip!
Words: Mochida Kaori
Music: HAL

The seven stars scattered across the indigo sky.
The feelings in each one, now growing stronger,
shattered, cried out for love.

unable to runaway we cling to a dream.
We won't lose to this phoney life anymore.

Let's realize this moment.
The time is coming when we'll find ourselves amidst
the stifling reality of our everyday lives.
Just what... is most important!?
The fragments of eternity
that we see on and off again
in this materialistic world
feel them, grab them
Let's go on a step at a time to make sure of who we are now. *1

We went onward, "not to regret a thing"
Will we laugh or cry? Will we be happy or sad?
Even now I don't know afterall
There's nothing to fear from the future that's begun to change.
That's what life is really all about.

Living on the edge, even if the answer we gave is wrong *2
even if its just something we thought up.
we should wish strongly until the day it becomes the real thing.

The sprout of love on the verge of being squashed
growing in the cruel world.
feel it, grab it.
make our mark definitively on our present.

Let's realize this moment.
The time is coming when we'll find ourselves amidst
the stifling reality of our everyday lives.
Just what... is most important!?
The fragments of eternity
that we see on and off again
in this materialistic world
feel them, grab them
Let's go on a step at a time to make sure of who we are now.

in order to have the last laugh, Let's go on a step at a time to make sure of who we are now.

Translated By: Brian Stewart & Takako Sakuma

Translator's Notes: The "Grip!" of the title must be a reference to the lyric tsukande which in Japanese could be translated as grip but in this case is more like "get" "grab" "grasp" or "get hold of". The song seems to be about taking hold of your current circumstances. Thus "get a grip on your life" is probably what they are getting at.. On to the *'s

*1 - This is a difficult line to put into English as it says a lot with fairly few words. What Kaori seems to be trying to say is that by taking slow determined steps we can claim our present as our own. Thus we assure ourselves of who we are because we haven't gotten lost in the hustle and bustle.

*2 - "Living on the edge" was more or less us settling for something. We try not to do it a lot... but girigiri wo ikiru bokura is a hard concept to put in words. If you have something better we'd be glad to use it.
