Translated By: Brian Stewart & Takako Sakuma Translator's Notes: datte is one of those words that seems to change meanings eveytime it's used in Japanese. Sometimes its meaning is "but" sometimes it's more similar to "even" sometimes when spoken it has connotations of "don't you see". In this case it can be used as a way of sort of asking a person to reconsider something or to think more about it. "just try to listen closely and its like you can hear them... just try to look closely and its like you can see heaven" Is how we interpret these lines. The story Cocco is telling seems to be about a young couple who fell in love went to the city, lost themselves, went back to the country but died on the way there, in a "horse drawn carriage accident". The way she sings the song sounds like she's telling a story to people about a little path in the woods, that carries this legend with it. A fairytale ending?
