Hitomi: Why?

Title: Why?
Words: Hitomi
Music: Kitano Masato

I was walking looking for freedom, I was walking chasing after my dreams
One day I suddenly hit a slump, too used to being fulfilled
It's endless, I'm still in the midst of this journey, climbing a steep steep slope.
While doing that again and again I failed to notice... WHY?

The dream I thought I'd caught, wasn't a dream afterall,
it disappeared too soon after, like a mirage.
I came to think of running, trying to catch my breath, as closer to happiness.

Deeply hidden in our broken wings is "possibility", I'm sure we can find it.
the faint pain we need to live, rings out strongly.

We're always looking for something,
wearing meaningless things,
but maybe those things relieve the sadness
let's try peeking out from the window of our hearts
let's play and sing the meaning of our lives to the rythm we really like.

The voice of light that should be in our eyes, one day it was faded and distant
I expected so much that I couldn't know what I was seeing anymore.
There's many things I lack, there's too many things I have too much of.
without knowing how to use them,
one day I was overwhelmed by them... WHY?

We packed something into the toybox,
which one day traded places with our childhood memories,
there's no going back again is there?

I don't care, I just feel the light I can't see.
when I listen carefully I realize the faint truth and precious melody.

Don't stop looking for the answer,
once you've found the answer, we'll know our weakness by the new worries.
so keep reaching out, sadness blows away with the wind
the more you worry, the more of the dream you'll see.

Translator's Notes: I (Boo) see this song as a sort of commentary on commericialism. Especially the lines, "putting on meaningless things" and "trading places with our childhood memories". Like our lives are just things not people and events. The line in Japanese mayou hodo kokoro ni kizamou korekara no yume no tsuzuki wo... literally "The more we worry, the more we'll mark the continuation of the dream we're going to have from now on our hearts" we simplified to make it succinct.
